Job Description

The Corporate Accounting team is looking for a Finance Manager to be a key partner to our Facilities and Security departments here at The New York Times. Reporting to the Financial Director, this role will be responsible for expenses, analyzing capital project spend, and completing month-end close. This role has significant oversight of financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial analysis as well as assisting with special projects. The successful candidate for this role will be the expert in navigating a multi-dimensional database to pull together information necessary to support business decisions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, analyze and communicate financial, accounting and statistical information for facilities and security
  • Perform monthly closing procedures for facilities and security expenses and balance sheet accounts, as assigned. This includes performing and/or reviewing account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare annual operating and capital budget and forecast for facilities and security
  • Communicate with operational departments to research and report on all business issues
  • Review assigned areas of responsibility for continuous process improvement
  • Perform Sarbanes-Oxley assessments and/or testing, as required
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating and implementing internal controls over areas of responsibility
  • Respond to ad-hoc reporting, analysis and special assignments, as needed
  • Investigate and research accounting questions related to internal and external reporting issues to ensure that financial activity is recorded in a manner consistent with the Company’s policies and procedures and GAAP
  • Work with internal and external auditors; responsible for responding to information requests from the Company’s external auditors in connection with their quarterly reviews and annual audit of the Company’s financial statements
  • Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed
  • Assist in the completion of special projects, such as implementation of new financial system features and functions
  • Convert complex data into meaningful information so actionable plans can be developed


  • 5-7  years of experience in relevant financial roles with a deep understanding of financial and accounting concepts
  • BS/BA is required, preferably with a degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or Accounting
  • MBA/CPA preferred
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and in person
  • Comfortable working with multiple teams across the Company including all business and newsroom departments
  • Detail and process oriented with the ability to understand requirements and build processes independently

The annual base pay range for this role is between $102,000.00 and $138,000.00.
