The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Medical Division is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all members of the service.

The selected Nutritionist will:

• Act as a technical consultant in nutrition for the NYPD Medical Division.
• Provide nutrition consultant services for members of the service and in-service training for personnel assigned to the Medical Division.
• Prepare literature for and develop a nutrition education program for the Department.
• Implement these strategies and initiatives on the Department’s Mobile Health Vehicle, at Police Department functions, and during Medical Division initiatives.
• Assist in nutrition projects and field studies.

1. A master’s degree from an accredited college in nutrition or in public health; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 18 semester credits in nutrition or public health on the graduate or undergraduate level, and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level II

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above, one (1) year as a Nutritionist AL I with the City of New York or at least three (3) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education.

Assignment Level III

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described in Assignment Level I, two (2) years as a Nutritionist AL I and AL II with the City of New York or five (5) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Preferred skills include:

• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• A working knowledge of basic computer software applications and multimedia communications

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
