The Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a non-profit organization with more than 30 years of experience providing public legal education and justice system capacity building in Canada and overseas. In Canada, JES helps more than 700,000 British Columbians learn about their justice system and address their legal issues. Internationally, JES has programs in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, and Guyana which work with national institutions to strengthen justice systems and increase access to justice and citizen security. II. The Project

The Instructional Designer is to contribute to the following legal education projects:

Legal Capability for Youth

Through legal education sessions we strive to increase the legal capability of BC youth. By empowering youth with skills and knowledge they will be better equipped to deal with everyday legal issues.

Access to Legal Empowerment

This project aims to train intermediaries to provide legal education to empower immigrants to better understand their legal rights and responsibilities. JES will provide intermediaries with facilitator guides, tools and train-the-trainer sessions to enable them to educate on a range of legal issues.

Increase Access to Quality Child Care in BC

This project aims to improve the working conditions of Early Childhood Educators through education on employment rights and human rights. To empower ECEs to take make careers choices through education on licensing and centre regulations and government funding opportunities.

III. Deliverables

The objective of this contract is to support the development of legal education sessions with the following deliverables:

o 6 train-the-trainer workshops to help new immigrants (1-2 hour workshops primarily in-person)

Work with content experts to develop engaging interactive training sessions
Create lesson plans and activities
Develop appropriate evaluations to assess objectives of training are met
Train facilitators to deliver training
o 5 education sessions for youth and 2 education sessions for teachers (1 hour in-person and adapted for online)

Develop appropriate evaluations to assess objectives are met
Train facilitators to deliver training. modeling, observing and feedback.
o 6 education workshops for early childhood educators and their employers (1-2 hours virtual webinars, 1 hour self-paced)

Working with content experts create e-learning workshops both for engaging interactive webinars and self-paced learning
Create lesson plans and activities
Develop appropriate evaluations to assess objectives are met
Train facilitators to deliver training
Adapt content to be delivered in-person.
IV. Qualifications

The selected consultant must have at minimum the following knowledge, skills, experience and competencies:

Related Master’s degree, instructor diploma, or 3 years’ related curriculum design and instructional design experience. May include, but is not restricted to, degrees in education, curriculum design, instructional design, and educational technology
Experience in youth education, early childhood educator training, and education of people with English not as a first language.
Ability to integrate and apply principles of instructional design to meet learning outcomes.
Knowledge of competency-based curriculum and assessment design approach
Ability to integrate
Hands-on experience with program and curriculum evaluations
Ability to train facilitators to deliver new content.
Ability to work professionally with subject matter experts
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Familiarity working within the justice sector (preferred)
Ability to conduct training sessions and strong presentation skills
