TNPSC Group 4 Eligibility Criteria 2026
Age limit (as on 1 July 2026). The Tamil Nadu government has raised the upper age limit by five years for all categories through G.O. (Ms) No. 68 dated 30 October 2026, and the higher limits apply for five years from that date. For most Group IV posts, the revised maximum age is 35 years for Others, 37 years for BC / BCM / MBC / DC, and 40 years for SC / SC(A) / ST and destitute widows. The minimum age is 18 years for most posts and 21 years for Village Administrative Officer, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard. For Executive Officer (Grade IV), the age range is 25 to 40 years for Others. Candidates who hold a general educational qualification higher than the minimum prescribed for the post have no maximum age limit under the notification, subject to not having completed 60 years of age. Age limits differ by post and category, so confirm your post’s exact limit in Addendum 11B/2026 on tnpsc.gov.in before paying the fee. Note that some news reports quote revised limits of 37, 39 and 42 years — those are the Group I figures in the same government order, not the Group IV limits in Notification No. 11/2026.
Common conditions. (1) The minimum general educational qualification for most posts is a pass in the SSLC (10th) examination. (2) The date of birth is verified against the SSLC or HSC mark sheet. (3) Only Tamil Nadu candidates can claim SC, ST, BC, BCM or MBC/DC status — candidates from other states are treated as Others even if their community appears in the Tamil Nadu lists. (4) A minimum of 30% of all vacancies is set apart for women candidates, and 10% of that women quota is reserved for destitute widows in posts up to Level 10.
Post-wise qualification. The qualification differs sharply by post, and a wrong combination is the most common reason for rejection. Typist posts need the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting (Senior or Higher grade in Tamil and English, in the combination the post prescribes) plus a pass in the Certificate Course in Computer on Office Automation — candidates without the computer certificate may still apply but must acquire it within probation or within two years of appointment. Steno Typist (Grade III) posts need both Typewriting and Shorthand at Senior or Higher grade in Tamil and English, plus the same computer certificate. Junior Assistant (Accounts) and Junior Assistant in the Power Finance Corporation need a B.Com. degree; Junior Assistant (post code 3788) needs any degree with a Diploma in Co-operative Management or Co-operation as a special subject; Junior Administrative Assistant (Computer Operator) needs SSLC plus Higher Grade typewriting in English and Tamil plus the computer certificate. Executive Officer (Grade IV) needs SSLC or the title of “Tamil Pulavar”. Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies needs SSLC for reserved-category candidates and Intermediate or Pre-University for others. Senior Laboratory Assistant needs Higher Secondary with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Zoology or Botany; Laboratory Assistant needs Higher Secondary with Science; Sales Assistant needs any degree. Forest Watcher needs the minimum general educational qualification; Forest Guard with Driving Licence needs Higher Secondary with a science subject, a valid driving licence, three years of LMV or HMV driving experience after getting the licence, and basic knowledge of automobile mechanism. Telephone Operator needs SSLC plus a certificate of training in telephone board operation.
Who can apply. Any Indian citizen who meets the age and qualification conditions for the post can apply. Reservation benefits (community, women, destitute widow, PwBD, ex-serviceman, sports person, person studied in Tamil medium) apply only as the notification prescribes, and each claim needs the supporting certificate uploaded when the Commission calls for it.
TNPSC Group 4 Application Fee 2026
| Category | Examination Fee |
|---|---|
| All candidates (unless exempt) | Rs. 100 |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) / SC (Arunthathiyar) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) | Full exemption |
| Backward Classes / BC (Muslim) / MBC / DC | Three free chances |
| Persons with Benchmark Disability | Full exemption |
| Ex-Servicemen | Two free chances |
| Destitute Widows | Full exemption |
How the fee is paid. The fee is paid online only, through Net Banking, credit card, debit card or UPI, at the time of submitting the online application and on or before 8 November 2026. Offline payment by demand draft or postal order is not accepted and such applications are rejected. Service charges, if any, are borne by the candidate. Separately, One Time Registration costs Rs. 150 — a one-time payment that keeps the registration valid for five years. A false claim of fee concession leads to rejection of the candidature and debarment for one year, and the Yes/No choice on fee concession cannot be changed after the application is submitted.
How to Apply for TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment 2026
- Open the Commission’s application portal at www.tnpscexams.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR) first, if you have not already done so. OTR costs Rs. 150 and stays valid for five years. Keep ready a photograph taken within the last 3 months (20–50 KB, saved as Photograph.jpg) and a signature (10–20 KB, saved as Signature.jpg), both at 200 DPI. Linking Aadhaar with OTR is mandatory.
- Log in with the user ID and password created during OTR, and click APPLY against Notification No. 11/2026 (Combined Civil Services Examination-IV).
- Choose the post option: select “All the Posts” if you are willing to be considered for Forest Guard with Driving Licence and Forest Watcher as well, or “Posts other than Forest Guard with Driving Licence / Forest Watcher” if you are not.
- Fill the application form carefully. Check the preview before final submission — the Commission sends an SMS and an email when the preview is available — and correct any mistake using the Edit option.
- Pay the examination fee of Rs. 100 online (unless you are claiming an exemption) before 8 November 2026, 11:59 PM. Do not press Back or Refresh while the payment is processing.
- Click SUBMIT to finally submit the application. A preview alone does not count as having applied. Note the Application Number / Applicant ID generated after successful submission.
- Take a printout of the submitted application for your record. You do not need to send the printout or any document to the Commission by post unless the Commission specifically asks for it.
One application only. The notification does not provide for multiple applications for the same examination; candidates must fill the single application carefully, because claims made in the submitted application are the candidate’s own responsibility and cannot be blamed on the browsing centre or service provider.
TNPSC Group 4 Correction Window – What Can Be Changed
The Application Correction Window opens for three days, from 9 November 2026 (12:01 AM) to 11 November 2026 (11:59 PM). During this period candidates can edit the details in their online application. After the window closes, no modification is allowed in any mode, and requests for modification received afterwards are not entertained.
Fields that cannot be changed. The Yes/No choice on availing fee concession cannot be modified or edited after successful submission of the online application. Details carried forward from One Time Registration must be corrected in the OTR profile itself before the application is finally submitted, because the application pulls those details automatically.
Fee warning. If the edited details create a fee liability, the prescribed examination fee must be paid online. Candidates who have already paid the examination fee are not required to pay again. Applications are processed only on the details finally furnished, and the Commission accepts no liability for rejection caused by wrong details left uncorrected.
TNPSC Group 4 Exam Pattern 2026
The examination is a single paper for all posts, held in OMR (objective) mode. The pattern is the same for every post in this notification.
| Part | Subject | Standard | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test | SSLC | 100 | 150 |
| Part B | General Studies | SSLC | 75 | 150 |
| Part C | Aptitude and Mental Ability | SSLC | 25 | 75 |
| Total | 200 | 300 |
Minimum qualifying marks. A candidate must score at least 40% (60 marks) in Part A; only then are Parts B and C evaluated. The total of Parts A, B and C together is considered for ranking. Part A questions are set in Tamil only, while Parts B and C are set in both Tamil and English. Differently abled candidates who studied English only in school or university may opt for General English (SSLC standard) in place of the Tamil test, with the same 40% qualifying mark. The examination lasts 3 hours, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on 10 January 2027. The notification’s scheme does not mention negative marking. The detailed syllabus is in Annexure III of the notification.
Exam centres and admit card. The hall ticket (memorandum of admission) will be available for download on www.tnpscexams.in — it is not sent by post. The list of examination centres is in Annexure I of the notification. Mobile phones, smart watches, bluetooth devices, books, notes and loose sheets are banned inside the examination hall.
TNPSC Group 4 Selection Process 2026
Stage 1 – Written examination. A single OMR paper of 200 questions for 300 marks. Ranking is on the total marks in Parts A, B and C together, subject to the 40% qualifying mark in Part A. There is no interview in this recruitment.
Stage 2 – Document verification. Candidates shortlisted on the written examination are called for onscreen certificate verification, where the required documents are uploaded, followed by physical certificate verification. The result, the list of candidates admitted for verification, and the counselling schedule are published on www.tnpsc.gov.in, with SMS and email alerts to the registered mobile number and email ID. No individual communication is sent by post.
Stage 3 – Counselling. Post and unit allotment is done through counselling, in the order of merit and as per the rule of reservation. The vacancy figures are tentative and may be modified before counselling begins, and the Commission may include additional posts with similar eligibility conditions.
TNPSC Group 4 Salary 2026
Most posts in this recruitment are placed in Pay Level 8 of the Tamil Nadu pay matrix. Four posts are in Level 3 — Junior Assistant (Accounts), Bill Collector (post code 3214), Record Clerk (Grade III) and Forest Watcher — one post, Forest Guard with Driving Licence, is in Level 5, and Steno Typist (Grade III), Shorthand Typist, Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies and Senior Laboratory Assistant are in Level 10. The notification prints rupee figures for only three posts: Junior Assistant (post code 3788) at Rs. 17,000 – 54,060, Junior Assistant (Accounts) at Rs. 19,500 – 62,000 and Bill Collector (post code 3214) at Rs. 16,600 – 52,400. The advertisement fixes only the pay scale — it publishes no exact “in-hand” figure, so in-hand amounts on unofficial websites are estimates varying with current DA and HRA rates.
