Bihar Vidhan Sabha Vacancy 2026 – Post-Wise and Category-Wise Details

The 20 posts are split across two separate advertisements, and the category break-up is not the same for both. The Junior Secretariat Assistant table has no ST or BC row at all, while the Office Attendant table has no SC or EWS row — check your category against the correct table. The full break-up from the official advertisements (the number of posts may increase or decrease):

Scheduled Tribe (ST)——01—
Extremely Backward Class (EBC)02010101
Backward Class (BC)——0201
Total15040503

Women’s horizontal reservation. Under the Bihar Government rules cited in both advertisements, 35% horizontal reservation applies for women, which is why 4 of the 15 Assistant posts and 3 of the 5 Attendant posts are accounted for by women candidates within their own categories. Reservation benefit is available only to candidates who are permanent residents (domiciles) of Bihar; candidates from other states are treated as unreserved for reservation purposes, whatever their category.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha Eligibility Criteria 2026

Apni age check karein: Age limit ko lekar confuse hain? Age Calculator se apni sahi age (saal, mahine, din) turant calculate karke eligibility confirm karein.

Age limit. The minimum age is 18 years as on 1 August 2026. The maximum age is 37 years for Unreserved men, 40 years for Unreserved women and for Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class candidates (men and women), and 42 years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates (men and women). Age is calculated from the date of birth recorded in the Matric or equivalent certificate. Regularly appointed Bihar government servants get a relaxation of 5 years, Divyangjan (PwD) candidates get 10 years over the maximum age limit, and ex-servicemen get 3 years plus the length of their defence service, provided their actual age on the date of application is not more than 57 years.

Educational qualification — it is different for the two posts. For Junior Secretariat Assistant, you must have passed Intermediate or an equivalent examination in any subject from an Intermediate Council or Board recognised by the State or Central Government. For Office Attendant, you must have passed Matric or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. In both cases the qualification must be completed by the last date of online application, 6 December 2026.

Who can apply. You must be an Indian citizen. Any Indian citizen can apply for either post, but the reservation benefit — and the lower fee slab — is tied to Bihar domicile. If you claim a reserved category, you must already hold the prescribed certificates when you apply: caste certificate and permanent residence (domicile) certificate, plus a non-creamy-layer certificate for BC and EBC candidates; for women candidates these certificates must be issued from the father’s permanent address. A reserved category once entered cannot be changed during the process.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha Application Fee 2026

The fee is not the same for the two posts, and it is also not the same for every candidate. This is where most applicants make a mistake, so read the table carefully.

CandidateJSA Fee (01/2026)Office Attendant Fee (02/2026)
Bihar-domicile EBC / BC / EWS / Unreserved menRs. 600Rs. 400
All candidates from outside Bihar (any category, men and women)Rs. 600Rs. 400
Bihar-domicile SC / ST candidatesRs. 150Rs. 100
Bihar-domicile PwD candidates (40% or more disability)Rs. 150Rs. 100
All Bihar-domicile women (every category)Rs. 150Rs. 100

How the fee is paid. The fee is paid online while applying, through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. Bank charges over and above the fee are deducted by the bank and are borne by you — print the bank receipt and keep it safe. No category is fully exempt. One warning from the advertisements deserves attention: if you claim the SC/ST fee slab but later cannot produce a valid caste certificate, your candidature can be cancelled; the advertisements themselves note that an SC/ST candidate who voluntarily pays at the general rate keeps the candidature safe on this point.

How to Apply for Bihar Vidhan Sabha Recruitment 2026

  1. Open the official website vidhansabha.bihar.gov.in and go to the Recruitment Notice page, or open the Secretariat’s recruitment portal blasrecruit.in directly.
  2. Choose your advertisement — Advt. No. 01/2026 for Junior Secretariat Assistant or Advt. No. 02/2026 for Office Attendant — and click “Apply Online”.
  3. Register with your own working mobile number and email ID, and note down the User Name and Password you receive; you will need them until the final result.
  4. Fill in your personal, educational and category details exactly as they appear on your certificates, and select the post and reservation category carefully — entries cannot be changed after submission.
  5. Upload your scanned photograph, signature and the required certificates in the prescribed places, and check that the uploaded images are clearly readable. Keep at least five extra copies of the same photograph with you.
  6. Pay the examination fee online by Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card, and print the bank receipt.
  7. Submit the form well before 6 December 2026; printed, typed or handwritten applications are not accepted at all, and the fee is not refunded for them.
  8. Immediately after submission, log in again, download your filled application from the “Download Filled Application Section” on the dashboard and print two copies. Every page must show the Bar Code and the Application Number — if either is missing, the application is treated as incomplete and liable to be rejected.

No correction window. Unlike many recruitments, these advertisements offer no facility to change or correct entries later. Whatever you submit is final, and a mismatch between the online entries and your original certificates or mark sheets can get the candidature cancelled.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha JSA Exam Pattern 2026

The written examination applies to the Junior Secretariat Assistant post only. It is a preliminary, OMR-based objective test with matric-level questions.

ItemDetails
Total questions100 MCQs
Question splitGeneral Studies 50, General Science and Mathematics 20, Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning 30
Total marks400
Marks per correct answer+4 marks

Exam dateTo be announced on vidhansabha.bihar.gov.in

Minimum qualifying marks. Scoring the category minimum in the preliminary exam is compulsory — below it, you are out of the competition regardless of rank. The minimums are: General category 40%, Backward Class 36.5%, Extremely Backward Class 34%, and SC, ST, women and PwD candidates 32%. The General Studies section covers current events, India and Bihar’s history, culture, geography and polity; the science and mathematics questions stay at matric level; the reasoning section covers analogies, coding-decoding, number series and similar topics listed in the advertisement. If the exam has to be held in more than one shift, results will be prepared after score normalisation (equating), as explained in the FAQ document referred to in the advertisement.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha Selection Process 2026

Junior Secretariat Assistant — Stage 1: Preliminary examination. The OMR test described above is the screening stage. Only candidates who score at or above their category’s qualifying marks move forward.

Junior Secretariat Assistant — Stage 2: Typing test. Shortlisted candidates take a Hindi and English typing test at 30 words per minute in each language. Note one detail that catches people out: the Hindi typing test is conducted in the Kruti Dev font, not in Unicode Mangal. Each test lasts 10 minutes, with an error allowance of 1.5%. The merit list is prepared from the preliminary-exam candidates who qualify the typing test. There is no interview for this post.

Office Attendant — Interview. There is no written exam in the normal course. Selection is through an interview of 100 marks, and the merit list is prepared on the interview marks. Only if the number of applicants crosses 40,000 may the Secretariat first hold a preliminary OMR-based objective examination to shortlist candidates for the interview.

Tie-breaking rule (both posts). If two or more candidates score equal marks, the older candidate is placed higher; if the date of birth is also the same, the candidate with the higher educational qualification ranks higher; if the tie still remains, the order is decided by the Devanagari alphabetical order of the names as written in the matric certificates. At the time of appointment, all certificates and mark sheets mentioned in the application must be produced in original.

Bihar Vidhan Sabha Salary 2026

Junior Secretariat Assistants are placed in Pay Level-2 (Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200) and Office Attendants in Pay Level-1 (Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 56,900), in both cases with other admissible allowances under Bihar Government rules. The advertisements fix only the pay scale — they publish no exact “in-hand” figure, so in-hand amounts quoted on unofficial websites are estimates that vary with the current DA and HRA rates.
