The ibps clerk salary per month is about Rs 39,367 in hand for a new clerk starting on the basic pay of Rs 24,050, and about Rs 43,633 in hand for a graduate starting on Rs 26,730 with two advance increments. These are estimates worked out step by step below. The IBPS CRP CSA-XVI notification publishes only the pay scale under the 12th Bipartite Settlement — it never publishes an in-hand figure. The calculation uses Dearness Allowance of 27.83%, the verified rate for August to October 2026, and the rates are dated so you can check them. Bank clerks are not paid under a Pay Commission. Their pay comes from the 12th Bipartite Settlement between the Indian Banks’ Association and the unions, signed on 8 March 2024 and effective from 1 November 2022 to 31 October 2027. That settlement, not the IBPS notification, fixes the allowance rates used in this guide.
IBPS Clerk Pay Scale and Basic Pay
The IBPS clerk salary per month starts at a basic pay of Rs 24,050, and the pay scale runs to Rs 64,480 after 20 years of service: Rs 24,050-1,340/3-28,070-1,650/3-33,020-2,000/4-41,020-2,340/7-57,400-4,400/1-61,800-2,680/1-64,480. Read it left to right: three annual increments of Rs 1,340 take the basic to Rs 28,070, then the increment rises in steps until the top of the scale. Beyond the maximum, the settlement allows 11 stagnation increments of Rs 2,680, one every two years, taking the basic up to Rs 93,960.
| Stage | Basic Pay (Rs) |
|---|---|
| Starting basic pay | 24,050 |
| After 3 increments of Rs 1,340 | 28,070 |
| After 3 increments of Rs 1,650 | 33,020 |
| After 4 increments of Rs 2,000 | 41,020 |
| After 7 increments of Rs 2,340 | 57,400 |
| After 1 increment of Rs 4,400 | 61,800 |
| Maximum (after 1 increment of Rs 2,680) | 64,480 |
Graduates start higher. Graduate candidates receive two advance increments, so a graduate clerk starts on a basic pay of Rs 26,730 (Rs 24,050 plus Rs 1,340 plus Rs 1,340). That single difference is worth about Rs 4,266 a month in take-home pay at the current DA rate, which is why different websites quote very different “IBPS clerk salary” figures — some use Rs 24,050 and some use Rs 26,730, often without saying which.
IBPS Clerk Allowances Breakdown
Basic pay is only part of the salary. Four allowances sit on top of it, and each one is fixed by the settlement or by a DA circular — not by IBPS.
Special Allowance – 26.50% of basic pay, with DA on it. For a starting clerk this is Rs 6,373 a month. It is part of the monthly salary but does not count towards pension, provident fund, NPS or gratuity.
Dearness Allowance (DA) – 27.83% for August to October 2026. Bank DA is linked to the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers and changes every quarter — in February, May, August and November. The 27.83% rate is set out in AIBEA circular 30/11/2026/37. DA is paid on basic pay, on the special allowance and on the transport allowance. The next revision was due from 1 November 2026 and had not been verified at the time of writing, so the figures in this guide use the verified 27.83% rate — the in-hand salary moves slightly when the new rate is published.
House Rent Allowance (HRA) – 10.25% of basic pay, at every centre. HRA is 10.25% of pay (basic pay plus any qualification pay, not special allowance or DA). A clerk in Mumbai and a clerk in a small town get exactly the same HRA — Rs 2,465 a month at the starting basic. This is the biggest difference from central government jobs, where HRA is 30% in metros and 10% in small towns. Where the bank provides quarters, HRA is not paid.
Transport Allowance – Rs 850 a month, plus DA on it. At the current DA rate this comes to about Rs 1,087 a month (Rs 850 plus Rs 237).
IBPS Clerk In-Hand Salary Calculation
The IBPS clerk salary per month in hand is not published anywhere officially, so the honest way to arrive at it is to work it out: basic pay plus special allowance plus transport allowance plus DA plus HRA, minus NPS and professional tax. Here is the full worked calculation for a new clerk on the starting basic of Rs 24,050, at the DA rate of 27.83%.
| Component | Calculation | Rs per Month |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | Stage 1 of the scale | 24,050 |
| Special allowance | 26.50% of 24,050 | 6,373 |
| Transport allowance | Fixed | 850 |
| Dearness allowance | 27.83% of (24,050 + 6,373 + 850) | 8,703 |
| House Rent Allowance | 10.25% of 24,050 | 2,465 |
| Gross salary | 42,442 | |
| Less: NPS deduction | 10% of (24,050 + 6,693 DA on basic) | 3,074 |
| Take-home (before professional tax) | 39,367 |
Each line is shown to the nearest rupee and the totals are worked on the exact amounts, which is why the rounded lines can add up to a rupee less than the total. Subtract your state’s professional tax to get the final figure — some states levy none, and the constitutional cap is Rs 2,500 a year.
For a graduate starting on Rs 26,730 (two advance increments), the same method gives a gross salary of about Rs 47,050 and a take-home of about Rs 43,633 before professional tax: basic Rs 26,730, special allowance Rs 7,083, transport allowance Rs 850, DA Rs 9,647, HRA Rs 2,740, less NPS of Rs 3,417.
Why Other Websites Quote Different IBPS Clerk Salaries
If you have seen IBPS clerk in-hand figures anywhere from Rs 37,734 to Rs 44,330, none of them is wrong on its own arithmetic — they use different starting assumptions, and most pages do not state them. Here is what each one is actually built on.
| Figure Quoted Online | What It Is Built On |
|---|---|
| Rs 37,734 in hand | Basic Rs 24,050 with a stale DA of about 19.83% (gross about Rs 40,720). The DA rate is outdated. |
| Rs 39,367 in hand (this guide) | Basic Rs 24,050 with the verified DA of 27.83% for Aug–Oct 2026 (gross Rs 42,442). |
| Rs 43,633 in hand (this guide) | Graduate basic Rs 26,730 with DA 27.83% (gross Rs 47,050). |
| Rs 44,330 in hand | Graduate basic Rs 26,730 with DA about 28.95%. |
The honest range for a new clerk is therefore about Rs 39,367 to Rs 43,633 a month before professional tax at the current DA rate — the lower end for a clerk starting on Rs 24,050, the higher end for a graduate starting on Rs 26,730. A single exact number quoted without its basic pay and DA rate is a guess, not a fact.
IBPS Clerk Salary After 5 Years
Each year of service earns one increment, so the IBPS clerk salary per month grows even without a promotion. The table below holds DA at the current 27.83% so that only the effect of the increments is visible — in practice DA changes every quarter, so treat these as illustrative.
| Year of Service | Basic Pay (Rs) | Gross Salary (Rs) | NPS (Rs) | Take-Home Before Professional Tax (Rs) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 24,050 | 42,442 | 3,074 | 39,367 |
| 2 | 25,390 | 44,746 | 3,246 | 41,500 |
| 3 | 26,730 | 47,050 | 3,417 | 43,633 |
| 4 | 28,070 | 49,354 | 3,588 | 45,766 |
| 5 | 29,720 | 52,192 | 3,799 | 48,392 |
The jump in year 5 is larger because the annual increment rises from Rs 1,340 to Rs 1,650 after the basic pay reaches Rs 28,070.
Deductions from IBPS Clerk Salary
National Pension System (NPS) – 10% of basic pay plus DA on basic. For a starting clerk this is Rs 3,074 a month. The bank adds 14% of the same amount — Rs 4,304 a month — to the NPS account on top of the salary; that share does not appear in the monthly pay slip.
Income tax – usually nil at the starting salary. Under the new tax regime for 2026-27, total income up to Rs 12 lakh carries no tax after the rebate, and salaried employees get a Rs 75,000 standard deduction, so a new clerk normally pays no income tax. This changes as the basic pay rises with increments.
Professional tax – state-wise. Set by the state government; some states levy none, and the constitutional cap is Rs 2,500 a year. Union subscription, staff welfare or insurance premiums apply only where the employee has opted in, and vary by bank.
Probation, JAIIB/CAIIB and Career Growth
Probation and training. The initial training/probation period for a newly joined clerk is 6 months, which the bank may extend at its discretion. During this period the clerk is paid at the starting basic pay plus applicable allowances — no separate stipend figure is published for this period.
JAIIB and CAIIB. Passing the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance’s JAIIB and CAIIB examinations earns qualification increments under the bank’s rules, and the number of increments depends on the stage at which the candidate qualifies. Once a clerk reaches the top of the scale, the 12th Bipartite Settlement pays Professional Qualification Pay instead — Rs 940 a month one year after reaching the maximum, rising to Rs 1,880 and then Rs 2,820 for CAIIB holders. This qualification pay counts as pay for DA and superannuation.
Clerk to officer. A clerk can move into the officer cadre in two ways: through the bank’s internal promotion process, which has its own service and examination conditions, or by clearing an officer recruitment examination such as IBPS PO. Officer Scale I starts at a basic pay of Rs 48,480 under the 9th Joint Note — roughly double the clerical starting basic. For a central government pay comparison, read our SSC GD Salary 2027 guide.
