The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the written result of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 on 5 November 2026, and 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview) for selection to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’). The Main Examination was held from 21 August 2026 to 30 August 2026. UPSC has published the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 in two official PDF lists — a roll number wise list and a name wise list — and the direct download links for both are given in this article. One warning before anything else: every qualified candidate must fill up or update, and then finally submit, the online application form on upsconline.nic.in between 11 November 2026 and 25 November 2026 (till 6:00 PM), even if there is nothing to change — candidates who skip this step will not be issued an e-Summon letter for the interview. This guide covers both result PDFs, how to check your result by name or roll number, the complete form-window checklist, the interview documents, and what UPSC has officially said about cut-off marks and marksheets. UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 – Overview
| Exam name | Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 |
| Conducting body | Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) |
| Mains exam dates | 21 August 2026 to 30 August 2026 (five examination days) |
| Written result declared | 5 November 2026 |
| Candidates qualified | 2,526 (for the Personality Test / Interview) |
| Services | IAS, IFS, IPS and other Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’) |
| Vacancies | Approximately 933 expected as per the CSE 2026 Examination Notice (including 33 reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability); UPSC’s Prelims result press note later referred to 1,016 vacancies for CSE 2026 |
| Next stage | Personality Test (Interview) — 275 marks, at Dholpur House, New Delhi |
| Official website | upsc.gov.in |
The candidature of all 2,526 candidates is provisional, subject to their being found eligible in all respects. For context: 13,343 candidates had qualified through the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 for admission to the Main Examination, and the Commission’s examination notice states that the number of candidates summoned for the Personality Test is about twice the number of vacancies to be filled. With 2,526 candidates called against roughly a thousand vacancies, the interview stage will decide the final selection for most candidates — which is why the form window explained below matters as much as the result itself.
UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 PDF Download
UPSC has issued the same result notice with two list formats, and candidates should download the one that suits them. The official notice (paragraphs 1 to 8) appears at the start of both files, followed by the list. Neither PDF contains any marks or ranks — the lists only tell you whether you have qualified for the Personality Test.
| Result List | What It Contains | Official PDF |
|---|---|---|
| Roll Number Wise List | Only the roll numbers of the 2,526 qualified candidates, in ascending roll-number order. No names are printed. | Download Roll Number Wise PDF (upsc.gov.in) |
| Name Wise List | Serial number, roll number and name of every qualified candidate — all 2,526 entries. Use this list if you have forgotten your roll number. | Download Name Wise PDF (upsc.gov.in) |
Which list should you open? If you remember your 7-digit roll number, the roll number wise list is the quickest check. If you have lost or forgotten your roll number, open the name wise list and search your name — your roll number is printed against it, and you will need that roll number for the form window and the e-Summon letter. Both files are the Commission’s own PDFs, are free to download, and open without any login or password.
How to Check UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026
- Go to the official website upsc.gov.in.
- Open “What’s New” on the homepage (or go to Examination → Written Results) and click on “Written Result: Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026”.
- Download either official PDF — the roll number wise list or the name wise list (direct links are in the table above).
- Press Ctrl+F and type your 7-digit roll number. In the name wise list, you can search by your name instead.
- If your roll number or name appears in the list, you have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview). Save or print the relevant page of the PDF for future reference.
- No login, password or application number is needed to view either result PDF.
Forgot your roll number? Check by name. This is exactly what the name wise list is for. Open the name wise PDF, press Ctrl+F and type your name as spelt in your application. Your entry shows your roll number alongside your name — note it down carefully, because the same roll number is used when you log in for the mandatory form update and when you download your e-Summon letter later.
Result page not opening? Use the direct PDF links in the table above. They point to the Commission’s own files on upsc.gov.in, so you do not have to depend on any third-party copy of the result.
DAF-II Form 2026: The Mandatory Online Form Window (11–25 November 2026)
Candidates know this step as “DAF-II”, but it is important to know what UPSC has actually ordered. The result notice does not use the name “DAF-II” anywhere. Under the Commission’s current online system, the notice requires every qualified candidate to log in at upsconline.nic.in, fill up or update the requisite details in the online Application Form, and finally submit it. The Civil Services Examination 2026 rules give candidates a window of 15 days after the declaration of the written result for this step, and for 2026 that window runs from 11 November 2026 to 25 November 2026, till 6:00 PM. Treat this window as part of the examination itself — a qualified candidate who misses it is out of the process.
- Visit upsconline.nic.in between 11 and 25 November 2026 and log in with your credentials.
- Go through every section of the online application form and update whatever has changed since you applied (the full list of fields is given below).
- If you had shown your educational qualification status as “appearing” at the Prelims stage, update the status and upload proof of passing the qualifying examination.
- Verify the complete form carefully before submitting — after submission, no change or modification of the information will be entertained.
- Click the final submit. On successful submission, a unique reference number is generated and sent to your registered email ID and mobile number by email/SMS. Save it as proof of submission.
What you may need to fill or update. The notice lists the details candidates must review and complete inside the window:
| Detail / Field | What To Do |
|---|---|
| Educational qualification status and proof of passing | Compulsory for candidates who applied as “appearing” — update the status and upload proof of passing. Without it, candidature stands cancelled. |
| Correspondence / permanent postal address | Update if your address has changed. |
| Higher educational qualification | Add any higher qualification completed or held. |
| Achievements | Achievements in different fields, as asked in the form. |
| Employment details / service experience | Present and past employment and service experience. |
| Earlier Civil Services allocation | Details of any service allocated on the basis of an earlier or previous Civil Services Examination. |
| Marital status and parental details | Fill or update as applicable. |
| PwBD recommendation details | Details of PwBD recommendation in past examinations, wherever applicable. |
| Debarment, earlier examinations and attempts | Debarment information, earlier examination details and attempt information. |
| OBC / EWS annexure | Annexure wherever applicable to your category claim. |
| Socio-economic questionnaire | Fill the questionnaire as presented in the form. |
| Service preference and Home Cadre | Your order of service preference and home cadre — check this very carefully before the final submit, because it cannot be changed later. |
| Pratibha Setu Portal | Disclosure of details on the Pratibha Setu Portal, as required in the form. |
It is compulsory even if you have nothing to change. UPSC has stated this in so many words: candidates who have already uploaded everything and have no update to make are also required to log in and finally submit after verifying their details, failing which no e-Summon letter will be issued to them. For “appearing” candidates who fail to update their status and upload proof of passing, the consequence is harsher — their candidature shall stand cancelled, and no correspondence will be entertained.
The freeze rule. Once the window closes, UPSC will not entertain any request for a change or modification of the information given in the application form. The only exception is a change of address or contact details, which may be intimated immediately through a letter or email (csmupsc@nic.in, as printed in the notice) within 7 days of the publication of the result notice. Fill the form as if it cannot be corrected — because it cannot.
UPSC CSE Interview (Personality Test) 2026: Dates, Venue and Documents
Interview dates have NOT been announced. The result notice says only that the dates of the Personality Tests (Interviews) “will be notified in due course” and that the schedule will be made available on the Commission’s website. Any specific date or month circulating on social media or coaching channels is unofficial until UPSC publishes the schedule — do not plan travel around a rumoured date.
Venue and the e-Summon letter. The Personality Tests will be held at the Office of the Union Public Service Commission at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069. The e-Summon letters will be made available in due course and can be downloaded from upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in. UPSC has made two things clear: no paper or physical summon letters will be issued, and a request for a change in the date or time of the Personality Test allotted to a candidate will ordinarily not be entertained.
What the Personality Test carries. The Interview (Personality Test) carries 275 marks, and there are no minimum qualifying marks in it. Your candidature at this stage remains provisional — it becomes final only when you are found eligible in all respects and your original documents are verified at the time of the interview.
Documents to produce at the interview. Candidates must produce the original certificates in support of their eligibility and reservation claims at the time of the Personality Test. Keep the following ready well before the schedule is announced:
| Document | Note |
|---|---|
| Original certificate of age | In support of your age claim, as per your application. |
| Original educational qualification certificates | Degree and supporting certificates for the qualifications claimed. |
| Community certificate (SC / ST / OBC) | Must have been issued by 27 February 2026 — the closing date of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 application. |
| EWS certificate | The same 27 February 2026 issue-date rule applies. |
| PwBD certificate | For candidates claiming the Persons with Benchmark Disability benefit; same issue-date rule. |
| TA Form and other documents | Such other documents as called for in the notice, including the TA Form — keep them ready in advance. |
The date rule deserves emphasis: certificates for reservation or relaxation benefits — SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and similar categories — must have been issued by 27.02.2026. A certificate obtained after that date will not support the claim, however genuine the claim itself may be.
The Attestation Form — a separate step many candidates miss. All qualified candidates must also fill and submit the Attestation Form online on the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) website at cseplus.dopt.gov.in. This form will be available from the date the Personality Tests commence till their conclusion — it is not part of the 11–25 November window, so do not confuse the two. For Attestation Form queries, DoP&T can be reached at doais1@nic.in and usais-dopt@nic.in, or on 011-24010454 and 011-24010413.
Cannot download your e-Summon letter? The notice directs candidates who face any problem with the e-Summon letter to contact the Commission immediately — by letter, on phone numbers 011-40303444 / 24041001, or by email at csm-upsc@nic.in. Do not wait for a paper letter to arrive; none will be sent.
UPSC CSE Mains Cut Off 2026 and Marks: What UPSC Has Said
Candidates searching for the UPSC CSE Mains cut off 2026 should know the official position first: the result notice contains no cut-off marks and no cut-off statement of any kind. UPSC declares the cut-off marks only after the final result, once the Personality Tests are over. The notice also settles the marks question: the marksheets of all candidates will be uploaded on the Commission’s website within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result, and they will remain available on the website for a period of 30 days.
This means no candidate — qualified or not — can see their Mains marks today, and any “expected cut-off” figure circulating on websites or social media right now is unofficial and does not come from UPSC’s notice. This page will be updated when the Commission publishes the official cut-off along with the final result.

If Your Roll Number Is Not in the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 List
If neither the roll number wise list nor the name wise list carries your entry, it means you have not qualified for the Personality Test in this cycle. The result notice provides no re-checking or re-evaluation route for the written result, so there is no application to file and no authority to appeal to for a re-count. What you will get, in time, is full transparency on your performance: the marksheets of all candidates — including those who did not qualify — will be uploaded on upsc.gov.in within 15 days of the final result and will remain available for 30 days, so you will be able to see your exact Mains marks and judge where the preparation fell short. UPSC publishes its examination calendar for the next cycle on its website; candidates planning another attempt should watch for it there and build the next attempt around the marks, once they are out.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How many candidates have qualified in the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026?
A total of 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview) in the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026, declared on 5 November 2026. They will compete for selection to the IAS, IFS, IPS and other Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’). The Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 was held from 21 August 2026 to 30 August 2026.
Is the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 available name wise and roll number wise?
Yes. UPSC has published the result in two separate official PDFs: a roll number wise list, which contains only the roll numbers of the qualified candidates in ascending order, and a name wise list, which carries the serial number, roll number and name of all 2,526 qualified candidates. Both PDFs are free to download from upsc.gov.in and neither requires any login or password.
How can I check the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026 by name if I have lost my roll number?
Download the name wise result PDF from upsc.gov.in (the direct link is given in this article) and press Ctrl+F to search your name. The name wise list prints your roll number next to your name, so you can recover the roll number you need for the online form window and for downloading the e-Summon letter. No password or application number is needed to open the PDF.
What is the last date to submit the DAF-II or online update form after the UPSC CSE Mains Result 2026?
The last date is 25 November 2026, till 6:00 PM. The window opens on 11 November 2026 at upsconline.nic.in. UPSC’s result notice does not use the name “DAF-II”; it requires every qualified candidate to fill up or update and finally submit the online application form in this window. Candidates who do not submit will not be issued an e-Summon letter, and candidates who had applied as “appearing” and fail to upload proof of passing will have their candidature cancelled.
What details and documents are required in the 15-day update window (DAF-II)?
Keep ready your educational qualification status and proof of passing (compulsory if you had applied as “appearing”), correspondence and permanent postal address, higher educational qualifications, achievements, employment and service experience details, details of any service allocated through an earlier Civil Services Examination, marital and parental details, the OBC or EWS annexure wherever applicable, details of earlier examinations and attempts, and your order of service preference and home cadre. The socio-economic questionnaire and the Pratibha Setu Portal disclosure also have to be completed in the form.
I have already uploaded everything and have nothing to change. Do I still need to log in and submit the form?
Yes. UPSC has made login and final submission compulsory for every qualified candidate, including those who uploaded everything earlier and have no change to make. If you skip the final submission, no e-Summon letter will be issued to you. On successful submission, a unique reference number is generated and sent to your registered email ID and mobile number by email and SMS.
When will the UPSC CSE 2026 Interview (Personality Test) be held?
UPSC has not announced the interview dates yet. The result notice says the dates of the Personality Tests will be notified in due course and the schedule will be published on upsc.gov.in. The interviews will be held at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069, and the e-Summon letters will be downloadable from upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in. No paper summon letters will be issued.
What documents should I carry for the UPSC Personality Test?
You must produce the original certificates in support of your claims: age, educational qualifications, community, Economically Weaker Section and Person with Benchmark Disability, along with other documents such as the TA Form. Certificates for reservation or relaxation benefits (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and similar categories) must have been issued by 27 February 2026, the closing date of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 application.
I could not download my e-Summon Letter. What should I do?
Contact the Commission immediately, by letter or on phone numbers 011-40303444 and 24041001, or by email at csm-upsc@nic.in. Do not wait for a paper letter to reach you, because UPSC has clearly stated that no paper or physical summon letters will be issued for the Personality Tests.
When will the UPSC CSE Mains 2026 cut-off and marks be released?
Not now. The result notice declares no cut-off, and UPSC publishes cut-off marks only after the final result. The marksheets of all candidates will be uploaded on upsc.gov.in within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result (after the Personality Tests) and will remain available on the website for 30 days. Any cut-off figure circulating before that is unofficial.
