Vacancies are tentative and can be reallocated. The notification clearly states that the game-wise numbers are tentative and subject to variation. If eligible candidates are not available in a game, the unfilled vacancies of that game may be reallocated to other games within the overall 119 posts, and the department may also decide not to fill a vacancy where no suitable candidate is available. Applying for a game does not create any right to appointment against that game’s vacancy.
Income Tax Sports Quota Eligibility Criteria 2026
Sports eligibility — the first and decisive condition. Educational qualification alone is not enough for this recruitment. The candidate must be a meritorious sportsperson whose achievements fall in competitions held between 1 January 2020 and 15 October 2026 in one of the 27 games listed above. For assessment, the department considers the candidate’s sporting achievements, consistency of performance, age and educational qualifications. Participation and performance are counted in the following order of preference:
- Represented India in an international competition, with the clearance of the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
- Represented a State/UT in the Senior or Junior level National Championships organised by the National Sports Federations recognised by the Department of Sports, or in the National Games organised by the Indian Olympic Association, and won a medal or a position up to 3rd place. Between Senior and Junior candidates, those who won a medal in the Senior National Championship get preference.
- Represented a University in an Inter-University competition conducted by the Association of Indian Universities / Inter University Sports Board, or in the Khelo India University Games, and won a medal or a position up to 3rd place in the finals.
- Represented a State/UT in the Khelo India Youth Games (age category above 18 years), Khelo India Winter Games or Khelo India Para Games, and won a medal or a position up to 3rd place in the finals.
- Represented the State Schools in the National Sports/Games for Schools conducted by the All India School Games Federation, and won a medal or a position up to 3rd place.
- Represented a State/UT, University or State Schools team at any of the levels in points 2 to 5 above, but could not win a medal or position.
Sports certificates — only these authorities and forms count. Only certificates issued by the authorities below, in the prescribed Annexure-II forms (as per DoPT OM dated 04.03.2024), are accepted as evidence of sports merit. A candidate who cannot submit the certificate from the competent authority in the correct form is not eligible to apply. Achievements certified by any authority not recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are not considered at all.
| Competition | Authority Competent to Issue the Certificate | Prescribed Form |
|---|---|---|
| International competition | Secretary of the National Federation of the game concerned | Form-1 |
| National competition | Secretary of the National Federation, or Secretary of the State Association of the game concerned | Form-2 |
| Inter-University tournament | Dean of Sports, or other officer in overall charge of sports, of the University concerned | Form-3 |
| National Sports/Games for Schools | Director or Additional/Joint/Deputy Director in overall charge of sports/games for schools, Directorate of Public Instructions/Education of the State | Form-4 |
| Khelo India University Games / Youth Games / Winter Games / Para Games | Officer designated / officer in charge from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) | Form-5 |
Age limit (as on 31 August 2026). Tax Assistant: 18 to 27 years. Stenographer Grade-II: 18 to 27 years. Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS): 18 to 25 years. Note that the MTS upper age is 25, not 27 — several unofficial posters show 18–27 for all three posts, which is wrong for MTS. As per Government of India instructions for meritorious sportspersons, relaxation in the upper age limit of up to 5 years (up to 10 years for SC/ST candidates) may be allowed to sportspersons who satisfy all other eligibility conditions and furnish the sports certificate in the prescribed form. The cut-off date for both age and education is 31 August 2026.
Educational qualification (as on 31 August 2026). The degree or pass certificate must be from a recognised university/board. Candidates who are awaiting the result of their final examination should not apply.
| Post | Educational Qualification | Skill Test After Appointment |
|---|---|---|
| Tax Assistant | Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University or equivalent | Data Entry Speed Test — 8,000 key depressions per hour, within the time mentioned in the appointment order |
| Stenographer Grade-II | 12th class pass or equivalent from a recognised Board | Stenography Skill Test — Dictation: 10 minutes at 80 words per minute; Transcription: 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi), on computer only |
| Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) | 10th class pass or equivalent from a recognised Board | No skill test prescribed |
Who can apply — reservation, posting and service conditions. (1) Sportspersons from any state can apply, but the selected candidates will be posted in the Delhi Region only — claims of “All India posting” on unofficial websites are incorrect. (2) No post is reserved for SC, ST, OBC or EWS in this recruitment; SC/ST candidates get only the age relaxation, and they must upload a self-attested caste certificate in the prescribed format to claim it. (3) A selected candidate must represent the Income Tax Department, Delhi Region in tournaments/meets for at least 10 years, and must give an undertaking not to apply for inter-charge transfer or transfer on loan basis for a minimum of 10 years; participation in department tournaments is also a factor in the declaration of probation. (4) The candidate must be clear in all doping tests of WADA/NADA or other relevant authorities, with no ongoing doping investigation — a declaration to this effect has to be given. (5) Candidates debarred from any examination, and candidates with a spouse living who have contracted another marriage (subject to the rule in the notification), are not eligible.
Income Tax Sports Quota Application Fee 2026 – No Fee for Any Category

| Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) | Nil — no fee prescribed |
| Divyangjan (PwD) | Nil — no fee prescribed |
No fee at any stage. The official notification does not prescribe any application fee for any category. Some job portals show a fee of Rs 200 for this recruitment — that figure does not appear in the official notification. Do not pay any amount to any website, agent or person for this application; the department has also warned candidates against agents or cheats who promise recruitment in exchange for money.

For any difficulty in online submission, the helpdesk email is delhi.helpdesk.sports@incometax.gov.in. All correspondence during the selection process, including call letters, is issued by email only — from delhi.recruitment.sports@incometax.gov.in — and shortlisted candidates are informed by email only.
Income Tax Sports Quota Selection Process 2026
No written examination. Unlike most government recruitments, there is no written exam, CBT or interview for these posts. Selection is made purely on the assessment of the candidate’s sports record.
Stage 1 – Scrutiny and shortlisting. Applications of candidates who fulfil the eligibility conditions are scrutinised, and suitable candidates are short-listed for the further selection procedure. Applications with false or suppressed information are cancelled at any stage, even after appointment.
Stage 2 – Provisional merit list. Selection for appointment is made by assessing the candidates’ sports/games achievements, consistency of sporting achievements, age and educational qualifications as on the prescribed dates. A provisional merit list is prepared only on the basis of the information provided in the online application portal. A candidate is considered only for the posts he or she has opted for. In the event of a tie, the decision of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi is final.
Stage 3 – Document verification. The merit list is subject to verification of original documents in support of eligibility. Candidates must produce all original testimonials and certificates at document verification, failing which the candidature is rejected even after selection. No TA/DA or accommodation is given for appearing in document verification. Appointment is offered only after the department is satisfied, after such enquiry as it considers necessary, that the candidate is suitable in all respects.
Skill tests after appointment. Tax Assistant appointees must pass the Data Entry Speed Test (8,000 key depressions per hour) and Stenographer Grade-II appointees must pass the Stenography Skill Test (dictation at 80 wpm; transcription 50 minutes in English or 65 minutes in Hindi, on computer), within the stipulated time mentioned in the appointment order.
Income Tax Sports Quota Salary 2026 – Post-Wise Pay
| Post | Pay Level (7th CPC) | Pay Scale | Starting Basic Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax Assistant | Level-4 | Rs 25,500 – Rs 81,100 | Rs 25,500 per month |
| Stenographer Grade-II | Level-4 | Rs 25,500 – Rs 81,100 | Rs 25,500 per month |
| Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) | Level-1 | Rs 18,000 – Rs 56,900 | Rs 18,000 per month |
All recruitments against this advertisement are made at the minimum of the scale of pay in the Pay Matrix, so the starting basic pay is Rs 25,500 for Tax Assistant and Stenographer Grade-II and Rs 18,000 for MTS, plus DA, HRA and other allowances under Central Government rules. Note that the often-quoted figure of “Rs 25,500 – Rs 81,100 for all posts” is wrong — it applies only to the two Level-4 posts; the MTS pay scale is Rs 18,000 – Rs 56,900. The notification fixes only the pay scale and publishes no exact “in-hand” figure, so in-hand amounts shown on unofficial websites are estimates that vary with current DA/HRA rates and the place of posting.
