ONGC Apprentice Vacancy 2026 – Sector-Wise and Work Centre-Wise Details

The largest sector is the Western Sector with 1,166 seats, followed by the Eastern Sector with 674 seats. The largest single work centre is Nazira and Sivasagar in Assam with 466 seats, followed by Ankleshwar with 392 seats. The full break-up from the official advertisement is given below. The vacancy figures are tentative and may change as per the requirement of ONGC.

Southern SectorChennai, Kakinada, Karaikal, Rajahmundry267
Central SectorAgartala, Bokaro, Kolkata267
Total24 work centres3,047

A 2-seat difference in the advertisement, traced to the Southern Sector. The advertisement prints a grand total of 3,047, but its six printed sector totals add up to 3,049. The difference sits in the Southern Sector: the advertisement prints its total as 269, while its four work-centre subtotals — Chennai 40, Kakinada 76, Karaikal 98 and Rajahmundry 53 — add up to 267. Using 267, the sector figures reconcile exactly to the advertised grand total of 3,047, so this article uses 267 for the Southern Sector. Candidates should watch ongcindia.com for any corrigendum on this point.

Domicile rule — read this before choosing a work centre. A candidate is eligible for a particular work centre only if he or she is a resident (domicile) of, or obtained the requisite qualification from, the eligible district or districts listed for that work centre in Annexure 1 of the advertisement. For most work centres the eligible area is all districts of the state — for example, all districts of Uttarakhand for Dehradun, all districts of Gujarat for Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar and Mehsana, and all districts of Assam for Jorhat, Nazira and Sivasagar and Silchar. A few centres are district-specific, such as Hazira (Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Dang and Valsad), Bokaro (Bokaro district only) and Rajahmundry (Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari). A candidate applies for one sector, one work centre and one trade only. If an application is submitted for more than one work centre or trade, apprenticeship will be allocated at one centre and for one trade only, as per the discretion of the management.

Reservation. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD categories is given as per Government of India guidelines. The advertisement prints no category-wise seat numbers, so no such split is given here.

ONGC Apprentice Eligibility Criteria 2026

Apni age check karein: Age limit ko lekar confuse hain? Age Calculator se apni sahi age (saal, mahine, din) turant calculate karke eligibility confirm karein.

Age limit. The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 24 years as on 29 November 2026. In other words, the date of birth of the candidate should be between 29 November 2002 and 29 November 2008. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC and ST candidates and by 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. Candidates belonging to PwBD categories get age relaxation up to 10 years, up to 15 years for SC and ST candidates and up to 13 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.

Three conditions that disqualify a candidate. First, the candidate should not have undergone apprenticeship earlier or be pursuing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Second, a candidate who had training or job experience for one year or more after attaining the prescribed qualification is not eligible for engagement as a Technician Apprentice. Third, the applicant should not have completed three years after passing the qualifying examination as on 29 November 2026. Where the mark sheet does not mention the date of declaration of result, the candidate must submit a certificate from the Principal of the Polytechnic, College or Institute stating the date of publication of result at the time of document verification.

Post-wise qualification. The qualification depends on the trade, and applying with the wrong qualification is the most common reason for rejection. The advertisement lists 35 trade and discipline rows, grouped below exactly as the qualification table in the advertisement prescribes them.

Who can apply. Candidates need to apply only if they possess the essential minimum qualification. Qualifications acquired through distance education are also accepted. Trade certificates should be from ITIs or technical institutions recognised by the State Board of Technical Education or the National Council for Vocational Training. For posts where the prescribed qualification is a trade certificate in the Electrician trade, a trade certificate in the Wireman trade is not acceptable. Candidates with a B.A, B.Com, B.B.A, B.E. or B.Tech must possess a qualification recognised by the relevant statutory bodies such as UGC or AICTE.

ONGC Apprentice Application Fee 2026

The advertisement prescribes no application fee. No fee table and no payment instruction appear anywhere in the advertisement, so there is no category-wise fee to list. Candidates apply free of cost through the NAPS or NATS portal. If any website or agent asks for a payment to apply for this engagement, treat it as a fraud and apply only through the official portals linked below.

How to Apply for ONGC Apprentice Recruitment 2026

  1. Read the full Advertisement No. ONGC/APPR/1/2026 on ongcindia.com and confirm your age, qualification and the eligible districts for your chosen work centre in Annexure 1.
  2. Decide your sector, work centre and trade. You can apply for one sector, one work centre and one trade only.
  3. For NAPS trades (ITI, 10th and 12th based trades and the NAPS Executive disciplines), register and submit your application on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme portal at https://apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
  4. For NATS trades (Graduate and Diploma Executive disciplines), register and submit your application on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal at https://nats.education.gov.in.
  5. Enter your registration details, educational qualifications and other particulars correctly on the portal before submitting. Applications on both portals have been accepted from 29 October 2026 only.
  6. Submit the application before the last date, 20 November 2026. Applications in hard copy, by post, by hand or through any other mode are not accepted.
  7. Keep checking the ONGC website, the ONGC apprenticeship portal at ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in and the NAPS or NATS portal for corrigenda, shortlists and instructions, and keep your registered email address active — check the inbox and spam folders regularly.

One application only. The advertisement allows one trade at one work centre. A second application for another trade or centre does not give a second chance — apprenticeship will be allocated at one centre and for one trade only, as per the discretion of the management.

ONGC Apprentice Selection Process 2026

There is no written examination and no interview. The advertisement lays down an 11-step process, and no examination appears in any step. Selection is based on the marks obtained in the prescribed qualifying examination.

Stage 1 – Merit list. After the application window closes, ONGC downloads and consolidates the applications received through the NAPS and NATS portals, segregated trade-wise, discipline-wise, qualification-wise and work-centre-wise. A provisional merit list is prepared separately for each trade or discipline and work centre, based on the marks obtained in the prescribed qualifying examination. Where two candidates have the same marks, the candidate older in age is given preference.

Stage 2 – Document verification. Candidates are shortlisted for document verification from the provisional merit list, in the ratio decided by ONGC. The shortlist is published on the official ONGC website and communicated through the registered email addresses of the candidates. Shortlisted candidates must produce original certificates and documents with self-attested copies: proof of date of birth, mark sheets and certificates of the qualifying examination, diploma, degree or ITI certificate, caste or category certificate, PwBD certificate where applicable, valid identity proof, and NAPS or NATS registration details. Any discrepancy, false declaration or failure to produce the required documents leads to cancellation of candidature.

Stage 3 – Final merit list and engagement. After document verification, the final merit list is prepared from candidates whose eligibility is established, trade-wise and work-centre-wise, taking into account the notified vacancies, merit position, reservation provisions and the tie-breaking rule. Selected candidates are informed by registered email, must be declared medically fit as per the Apprentices Act, 1961, and must complete the engagement formalities, including the contract on the NAPS or NATS portal, within the stipulated timeline. If a selected candidate does not report or does not complete the formalities, the vacancy may be filled from the remaining eligible candidates in order of merit. The decision of ONGC management on eligibility, merit lists and engagement is final.

ONGC Apprentice Stipend 2026

Apprentices are eligible for a monthly stipend as per the Apprentices Act, 1961, during the 12-month training period. The stipend depends on the qualification, and the advertisement fixes five rates.

Category of ApprenticeQualificationStipend per Month
Graduate ApprenticeB.A / B.Com / B.Sc / B.B.A / B.E. / B.TechRs 12,300
Diploma ApprenticeThree-year Diploma in the respective discipline of EngineeringRs 10,900
Trade Apprentice10th / 12thRs 8,200
Trade ApprenticeITI trade of one-year durationRs 9,600
Trade ApprenticeITI trade of two-year durationRs 10,560

The monthly stipend therefore ranges from Rs 8,200 to Rs 12,300. The trainee is not eligible for any TA or DA, boarding or lodging expenses during the training period, and ONGC does not provide any financial assistance towards transportation. This is a stipend for training, not a salary, and the advertisement publishes no pay scale or in-hand salary figure.
